Our ARFID Service & Treatment Support

Individualised support for people experiencing ARFID.

Our dedicated ARFID pathway includes specialist assessment, structured group support, 1:1 therapy, and support for carers.

One-to-One Psychological Therapy for ARFID

Individual support, centred around you.

ARFID can present differently from person to person. At Lilac Tree Clinic our one-to-one psychological therapy provides space to explore your individual experiences, identify the difficulties you would like help with, and work towards meaningful goals.

Psychological approaches tailored to the individual.

Depending on your assessment and clinical needs, psychological therapy may draw on approaches such as:

1. Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

CBT can help people explore the connections between thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and work towards changes that are relevant to their individual difficulties.

2. Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

DBT-based approaches can support the development of skills relating to emotional regulation, managing distress, and responding to difficult experiences.

Is one-to-one therapy right for me?

We welcome enquiries from people who would like to understand their options, including those considering self-referral.

A Specialised Pathway for ARFID

Support for ARFID should reflect the needs of the individual, rather than follow a one-size-fits-all approach.

Our dedicated ARFID pathway brings together different options for assessment, psychological support and guidance for those supporting someone with ARFID.

Specialist Assessment

An assessment helps establish an understanding of the individual's difficulties, needs and circumstances, informing recommendations about suitable support.

Structured Group Support

Where appropriate, structured group support can provide an opportunity to work on relevant therapeutic goals alongside others receiving support.

Individual Therapy

One-to-one psychological therapy offers a more individualised setting in which to explore personal experiences and work towards agreed goals.

Support for Carers

Parents, partners and other carers may need guidance of their own. Appropriate support can help them better understand the individual's experience and consider how to support them. The combination of support will depend on the individual circumstances and clinical recommendations.

Finding the Right Support Starts with Assessment

There is no single approach that suits everyone experiencing ARFID. Understanding your individual circumstances helps inform decisions about the type of support that may be appropriate.

What happens next?

1. Make an Enquiry

Tell us that you are interested in ARFID support and whether you would like to explore one-to-one therapy or the wider specialist pathway.

2. Discuss your needs

Our team can explain the available services, answer your initial questions and outline the relevant assessment arrangements.

3. Explore Suitable Options

The appropriate assessment process will depend on the service being considered and your individual circumstances. Clinical recommendations will help determine the next steps.

4. Understand your options

Following assessment, you can discuss the recommended support, the arrangements involved and any further steps that may be needed.

You do not need to know which treatment is right for you before contacting us. Our team can help you understand the available options.

Supporting Sustainable Progress

Support should be about more than the immediate difficulties someone is experiencing. It should also consider their individual goals, changing needs, and the role that eating-related difficulties play in everyday life.

At Lilac Tree Clinic, we aim to help people understand the factors maintaining their eating difficulties, develop healthier coping strategies, reduce problematic eating-related behaviours, improve emotional wellbeing and support meaningful progress towards individual recovery goals.

The focus of treatment will depend on the person’s individual needs and clinical circumstances.

Goals that are right for the individual

Therapeutic goals should be relevant to the person's needs and agreed as part of their care.

Progress that can be reviewed

Regular review, where appropriate to the service, can help establish whether the support remains suitable as needs and circumstances change.

Considering the bigger picture

Where relevant, support may take account of the impact of ARFID on daily routines, relationships, education, work and social situations. Suitable progress looks different for everyone. The aim is to identify appropriate support and work towards meaningful goals.

Support for the people around you.

Supporting someone experiencing ARFID can raise questions of it's own. Parents, partners and carers may need guidance to better understand the person's experiences and how to offer appropriate support. Our ARFID pathway recognises the importance of considering carers' needs alongside the needs of those receiving support.
